CAMDEN — Five Knox County men face charges of night hunting and carrying a loaded vehicle in a firearm, after an incident Sunday night.

Summoned to appear in 6th District Court were Jason Long, 23, of Rockland; Justin Long, 20, of St. George; David Oaks, 24, of South Thomaston; Darren Corbett, 18, of Camden; and Russell Johnson, 21, of Camden. Confiscated by authorities as part of the investigation were a 1986 Chevrolet four-wheel-drive pickup truck and a loaded Ruger .44 Magnum pistol.

Warden William Allen said the five were apprehended by the Camden Police Department. Allen said Sgt. Peter Hall, and Officers Robert Laite and Robert McBrien captured two of the men in a field. The other three fled the scene but were apprehended later Monday moring. A dead adult doe deer was recovered as evidence. The incident occurred at 11:08 p.m. Sunday in a field off Turnpike Hill on Route 52.

Allen noted that after he and Warden David Berry interviewed two of the men, they obtained information that enabled them to solve a night-hunting incident that took place in St. George last week. Deer parts were recovered as a result of the information, Allen said. The case remains under investigation.
