AUGUSTA — “Hands Around the Capitol,” the annual pro-life rally, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, on the steps of the Capitol in Augusta.
Among those addressing the gathering will be the Most Rev. Joseph J. Gerry, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, and the Rev. Ken Partridge of the American Baptist Churches of Maine.
Knights of Columbus councils around the state are encouraging participation by Mainers opposed to abortion. Gerald Thibodeau of Bangor is coordinating transportation for the Pine Cone Council.
Organizers report that last year, those attending were able to ring the Capitol three times. This year they hope for enough participants to surround the Capitol five times.
