Planning started for August festival

CALAIS — Although August is seven months away, the International Festival Committee already is working to make this year’s festival a larger celebration than last year’s.

In a letter to local businesses, Linda Gordon, president of the International Festival Committee, said the committee hoped area businesses again would support the festival. “We depend on you, the merchants, your donations and support to put this big event on,” she wrote.

Highlights of this year’s festival, that begins Aug. 2, will be: the Hands Across the Border Ceremony; the Great International Raft Race; the Moosehead Open Gold Tournament; The Miss International Pageant; the Concert in the Park; the Children’s Peanut Fair; the International Festival Parade; the Five Mile Road Race; the Craft Fair; and the Great International Rubber Duck Race.
