Ripley voters OK funds for work on North Road

RIPLEY — Voters at their annual town meeting Saturday were willing to take on one road project this year, but spending $40,000 on two other projects was a bit too much.

Voters approved spending $20,000 to reconstruct a part of the North Road and to continue reconstruction on the Lane Road by a vote of 23-15, but handily vetoed a request for $20,000 to resurface a portion of the North Road farther up the road from the Mellen Randall residence to the Tripp Road.

The following allocations were approved by about 50 voters at the meeting moderated by Ernest Sevey: $15,500 for administrative salaries; $8,000 for general administration expenses; $5,200 for insurance; $1,100 for the computerization of assessment records; $2,000 as a retainer fee to the Dexter Fire Department; $417 for fire protection; $600 as a retainer fee to the Dexter Ambulance Service; $200 for cemetery upkeep; and $1,000 for street lighting.

The sum of $28,781 was approved for the summer roads account; $55,000 for winter road maintenance; $14,132 for solid waste costs; and $280 for general assistance payments.

In elections, Ed Gaudreau was re-elected town clerk, treasurer, tax collector, and excise tax collector; Andy Sevey, Everett Hibbard and Doug Thomas were elected to the Board of Selectmen; Dorothy Hutchins was elected administrative assistant; and Rodney Farrar was elected as a director to the SAD 46 School Board. LaRoy Sevey was elected to the Cemetery Committee; Emile DuBois to the Board of Appeals; and Charles Ellms, Kenneth Robinson and Ernest Sevey were elected to the Planning Board;.

The 32-article warrant took voters about 2 1/2 hours to complete.
