Two Milo men arrested after stolen car accident

SEBEC — Two Milo men were arrested after they allegedly demolished a stolen vehicle and fled from the scene on Thursday.

As a result of an accident on the River Road at about 7 p.m., Investigator Scott Richardson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department charged 22-year-old Jeff Lyford with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident and violation of bail conditions.

Charles Sinclair, 21, who was wanted on a warrant for a previous count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, was charged with a second count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Richardson said the pair allegedly stole a 1988 Volkswagen owned by Mary Delgaard of Greenville from a garage in Milo, where they worked.

Police said the pair traveled up an old railroad bed with the vehicle when they lost control of it and it rolled over.

Police were alerted that Lyford was driving when an off-duty officer, Bob Kinney of Milo, spotted the pair in the Volkswagen. The accident occurred a few minutes later.

Sinclair, who received cuts and bruises, went to Mayo Regional Hospital where he was treated and released, according to Richardson.
