Lost hunters are keeping wardens busy

CHAMBERLAIN LAKE — As soon as the search ended for a missing Vermont hunter in the Chamberlain Lake area Tuesday, wardens were dispatched to find another hunter reported missing between Rockwood and Jackman.

Wardens earlier located Francis Beede, 42, of Washington, Vt., who spent Monday night in the Chamberlain Lake area after becoming lost. The search ended for the man at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when a warden pilot spotted him on the ground near the lake, according to Sgt. Pat Dorian of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Sgt. Dorian said Beede appeared to be in good shape considering all the rain that fell in the area Monday night.

Dorian said Beede left Nugent’s Camps on Chamberlain Lake at about 8:30 a.m. Monday for a day of hunting. When he failed to return, wardens were notified and a search began.

Beede was spotted on the ground by warden pilot Alan Ryder of Eagle Lake, who was flying in less than desirable weather conditions, according to Dorian.

He said Warden Brian Gray of Ashland walked to the area and met up with Beede.
