Burn victim sues car maker

BANGOR — A New Hampshire woman who claims she was severely burned six years ago when the heater core in her car exploded has sued the manufacturer in federal court.

Marangeli Anaya of Winchester claims in her lawsuit that the heater core in her 1984 Renault Alliance exploded on May 1, 1990, spraying scalding liquid onto her arms, wrist and hands.

In her lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court against Chrysler Corp., Jeep Eagle Corp., Renault USA Inc., and others, Anaya claims the defendants failed to correct the problem.

Two years after Anaya’s accident, Chrysler Corp. recalled 380,000 Renault models to replace the malfunctioning heater cores, which were blamed for at least one death.
