HOULTON — The SAD 29 board voted at its meeting Monday night to establish a pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds next year.
The program will be funded by an anticipated $50,000 Medicaid refund expected for next year and in future years. The program will not be funded with district money.
If for some reason the money does not come through, the program will not be implemented.
Details of the program have not been worked out, but Superintendent David Wiggin said that it will be set up in all district elementary schools in Houlton, Monticello and Littleton, probably in early September.
In other matters, the board approved 2 percent salary increases for district support staff and administrators. Support staff includes custodians, bus drivers, educational technicians, cooks and secretaries.
