Bangor students attend Odyssey championship

BANGOR — A team of students from Mary Snow School left May 24 to attend the world championship of Odyssey of the Mind Destination Imagination, which was held Friday, May 26, in Ames, Iowa.

This was the first time in years that a Bangor team had attended the world championship.

The topic of the team is “If Music Be the Food of Life … Play On.” The team includes coaches Michael Cormier and Janell McDermott, and team members Cameron Cormier, Erin McDermott, Jennifer Rowe, Billy Wood, Logan Emerson and David McKenna.

Much of the financial support for the trip was provided by the city of Bangor.

The focus of OMDI is to use problem-solving skills in unique situations. For most students, months of preparation culminate in the few minutes allotted to solve a problem during a competition. Most problems require a combination of critical thinking skills, performance and visual arts, engineering and teamwork, with limited assistance provided by coaches.
