Thank you, Tom Bradley, for the enlightened op-ed piece regarding the skyrocketing price of prescription drugs (BDN, April 18). Drug manufacturers are fleecing the public by holding the reins in a patented market and by playingon the fears of consumers.
The Maine Legislature has proposed several bills, including LD 254, requiring drug manufacturers to disclose the amount of money spent each year on marketing prescription drugs in Maine. By showing their cards face-up on the table, it is likely to cut back some of the high cost of drug marketing. Maine consumers are pitted in a David vs. Goliath fight against a fiercely powerful and wealthy industry.
I urge our legislators to give full support to this proposal requiring drug manufacturers to disclose marketing costs.
