Five Town CSD announces hiring

CAMDEN – The Five Town CSD has hired an assistant superintendent to replace Patrick Phillips, who left the district to become deputy commissioner for the state Department of Education.

Superintendent Pat Hopkins said Friday that the board voted Wednesday night to hire George Entwistle.

Entwistle will be offered a two-year contract, Hopkins said, in which he earns $75,000 for the first year. The second-year salary will be negotiated.

Entwistle has been working in the private sector as a vice president of human resources and organizational development for Vortechnic, a Portland environmental engineering firm. He holds a doctorate in education and is certified to work as an assistant superintendent.

Hopkins said Entwistle will oversee curriculum development for the district, as well as some personnel management. Karla Miller, named business manager for the district earlier this year, also is managing some of the personnel issues for the district, she said.

Phillips left the district in May. Entwistle will begin work July 21.

The Five Town CSD provides education for students in grades nine through 12 from Camden, Rockport, Hope, Appleton and Lincolnville.

SAD 28, which provides kindergarten through eighth grade education for Camden and Rockport, shares superintendent and other administrative services with the Five Town CSD.
