Truth for New Sweden

I am a resident of New Sweden, a Swede, and also a member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church, where an arsenic poisoning took place a little more than a year ago. It seems that people want to just forget about it, but I cannot.

My mother was a victim and still suffers from the effects of the poisoning. I help her with the daily struggle with things that we take for granted; things such as memory and walking without pain. She is in a constant battle, as are many others, including my uncle, many of my friends and their families.

In the article, “2 books probe New Sweden poisonings/ Colony’s residents wary of projects to tell story of unsolved arsenic murder” (BDN, April 15), author Brenda Jepson stated: “She [Jepson] now hopes her book can put conspiracy theories to rest, and allow the town to start healing.” I feel she has no right to make such a statement, as she is not a member of the police force.

The police are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. We should all support them and not fight against them, regardless of what we might believe.

Do you really think the state would pay to have an ongoing investigation if they did not have some form of evidence that would make them believe this was an act committed by more than one person? The State Police and detectives have tried to approach this in the best manner possible, and without cooperation, this case will never be solved.

Some say let it go, while others worry about a book, but I say, let us not lose focus. A friend of mine and a friend of many passed away due to this act. The police, with our cooperation, are the ones who will find the truth.

Let us not forget that.
