Waterville woman hired as city clerk Bangor council to OK Dubois Sept. 13

BANGOR – Patti Dubois of Waterville was selected unanimously on Monday as new city clerk by the City Council, outgoing City Clerk Gail Campbell, and two community members.

Her appointment is expected to be confirmed at the council’s next regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 13.

“We had a very good pool of applicants,” Mayor Dan Tremble said Tuesday afternoon. “‘We’re very sad that our old city clerk is leaving us, but we’re excited that Patti Dubois is coming in.”

Dubois is no stranger to city government, having held positions since 1989 in Waterville’s public works department and the assessor’s offices in Waterville and Bath.

Dubois, who has served as Waterville’s city clerk since 2001, is looking forward to working in Bangor.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” the appointee said. “It’s a bigger city than Waterville. There’s a lot of opportunities.”

Dubois said during a telephone interview that she enjoys many facets of city government, including its challenges and constant change.

“It’s very diverse,” she said. “You’re never bored here.”

Tremble hopes that Dubois will put her dislike of boredom to good use in Bangor.

“There’s more to that office than people realize,” Tremble said about the city clerk’s office. “You’ve got your hunting and fishing licenses, business licenses, marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, and the whole election process. Patti has been proud of getting things done in Waterville, and we’re looking forward to having her help us.”

Dubois plans to use her experiences in Waterville to help streamline Bangor’s operations.

“We’ve automated a lot of functions in Waterville,” she said. “I’m hoping to maybe enhance some of the technology that’s already in place in Bangor.”

More automated functions at the city clerk’s office should speed up and smooth out transactions for Bangor’s residents, she said.

Gail Campbell, city clerk since 1996, will be retiring. She is planning to help Dubois with the changeover.

“Gail has been very accommodating and willing to work with me,” Dubois said. “I anticipate it will be a smooth transition.”

Dubois plans to start working for Bangor on Sept. 27.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the city better,” she said.
