Belfast council extends manager’s contract

BELFAST – The City Council has extended its employment contract with City Manager Terry St. Peter through June 2007.

The council voted unanimously to extend the contract during its meeting Tuesday night. The manager’s current contract was due to expire on June 30, 2006. The new deal extends the contract for another year.

St. Peter’s current annual salary is $75,311, with a $5,400 vehicle allowance. Under the terms of the contract, the manager’s salary is determined when the council prepares the annual city budget each spring.

“He’s done a good job for the city and with the contract extension it gives the city some protection for the next two years,” Mayor Michael Hurley said Wednesday. “The council voted unanimously, so obviously he has the full support of the council. They wanted to make sure the city was protected.”

St. Peter has served as city manager since 1998.
