As a Korean veteran, I read Yong Cha Jones’ recent letter to the editor in the Bangor Daily News, “Korean War Monument” (BDN, Nov. 21). As volunteer leader of the Cole Land Transportation Museum’s granite bench program, I would like to respond.
The program is offered to the following: Public cemeteries with veteran memorials, veterans organizations with memorials and communities with veterans memorials throughout the state of Maine. The benches at the Korean War Monument in Bangor were requested by the Korean War Veterans Association. Their request was approved and the benches were placed by them as they determined.
To date, 165 granite benches have been requested with 99 successfully placed in cemeteries and memorial parks throughout the state. This program was established and sponsored by the Cole Land Transportation Museum to honor all veterans of all wars.
