If you’re as sick as I am of getting bounced around on the way to work or driving a bumpy boatload of kids to batting practice, please vote “yes” on Question 1. Question 1 is a $29 million bond, and the transportation component will generate $23 million for roads, freight and passenger rail, marine transportation and other projects. If passed, the bond will generate an additional $29 million in matching funds, making it a mini-economic stimulus package of nearly $60 million for projects throughout the state.
Maine’s roads are not only disgraceful, but dangerous, and conditions are getting worse. They’re going to keep getting worse until we face facts and the hard, cold reality that something serious needs to be done. We are one step away from serious catastrophe, both in terms of people’s lives, and because roads are the economic lifeline for the state.
A “yes” is a vote for a saner way of life.
