Geel leads Saint Joseph’s by UMM for 4th victory

STANDISH – Freshman Ashley Geel scored a season-high 15 points as Saint Joseph’s College defeated the University of Maine-Machias 83-42 in women’s basketball action Sunday.

Carolyn Freeman added 12 points for Saint Joseph’s.

Briann Emery led the Clippers with 17 points.

Colby splits

At Montclair, N.J., Julianne Kowalski scored six of her 12 points in overtime as Colby College beat Montclair State 73-69 in overtime Sunday in the Red Hawk/Pioneer Classic. Colby lost to William Paterson University Saturday 67-66.

In Saturday’s game, Elisa Brown hit a jumper with three seconds left to lead William Paterson past Colby. April Smith led William Paterson with 18 points.

Kowalski scored 19 points to pace Colby. Alison Cappelloni and Rachel Mack scored 12 points apiece.

In Sunday’s game, Sam Allen scored 19 points to lead Colby. Kowalski had 12 points and Mack added 11 rebounds.

Jamilee Pflug led Montclair State with 18 points. Jackie Berry scored 17 points.

At Pittsburgh, Megan Picinic broke the 4-4 tie at 11:41 in the third period to give Robert Morris University the win over the University of Maine Saturday.

Kathryn Stack and Mallby Giabra assisted Picinic’s goal.

Sara O’Malley and Whitney Pappas each scored two goals for 7-8-1 Robert Morris. Danielle Butterfield saved 27 of 31 shots.

Jenna Ouellette, Dawn Sullivan, Elyce Thomas and Jennie Gallo scored for the 3-11-0 Black Bears. Jordan Colliton and Vanessa Vani provided assists. Candice Currier turned away 23 of 28 shots.
