SANFORD — A 16-year-old Sanford girl was struck and killed by a car as she walked across Route 109, authorities said.

Jeannie A. Sargent died at a Portland hospital Saturday evening after she had been hit by a car driven by Scott E. Cote, 18, of Sanford, police said.

The investigation was continuing Sunday.
