AUGUSTA — Two Bangor High School students — Scott Kaiser and Paul Tomlinson — are among the 10 highest-scoring Maine students on Maine Educational Assessment Program tests they took last year as juniors.

The 10 students who scored highest on all three MEA tests — in mathematics, reading and writing — will be honored at a Blaine House tea with Gov. John R. McKernan as host.

The ceremony, from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, also will feature presentations by Education Commissioner Eve M. Bither and University of Maine System Chancellor Robert L. Woodbury.

Also invited to the Blaine House will be the students’ parents, school principals and superintendents, and the teachers the students selected as having had the strongest influence on their education.

In past years, Woodbury has offered full-tuition scholarships to University of Maine System campuses to the top 10 students on the 11th-grade exams.

The top students, now seniors, are:

Jenifer A. Allen, Brunswick High School. The daughter of Michael and Ann Allen, Jenifer selected teacher Leonard Moreau as being most influential in her education.

Laura G. Beal, Mount Desert Island High School. The daughter of Samuel and Mary Beal, Laura selected teacher Joseph Sala as most influential.

Scott D. Kaiser, Bangor High School. The son of John and Pauline Kaiser, Scott selected teacher Carol Farthing as most influential.

Michael P. Murphy, York High School. The son of Wendi Cochran, Michael selected teacher Robert Miller as most influential.

Rebecca A. Murray, Greely High School. The daughter of Stephen and Carolyn Murray, Rebecca selected teacher Joseph McGovern as most influential.

Jonathan B. Stroble, Central Aroostook High School. The son of Woodrow and Lucille Stroble, Jonathan selected teacher Roger Shaw as most influential.

Paul S. Tomlinson, Bangor High School. The son of Robert and Mary Tomlinson, Paul selected teacher Victoria Kornfield as most influential.

David S. Varney, Traip Academy. The son of Michael and Lillie Varney, David selected teacher Brian Sanborn as most influential.

Robert B. White, Bucksport High School. The son of Stewart and Lorena White, Robert selected teacher Joel Sankey as most influential.

Samuel B. Wilbur, Mattanawcook Academy. The son of Jene and Mary Wilbur, Samuel selected teacher Gary Stevens as most influential.
