CASTLE HILL — Voters of Castle Hill approved a gross budget Tuesday night of $158,291.42, an increase of about $4,208.33, or 2.73 percent, over that of last year.
The tax commitment was estimated at $140,806, including school and county projections, using $100,000 in revenue and an added $12,000 from surplus.
Duncan Beaton, town manager, said the increased tax commitment of $14,276 was due to “uncontrollable expenses” such as $9,000 for schools; $3,738 for insurances; and nearly $1,000 each for landfill and county taxes.
The tax commitment represented an estimated mill rate of 19 3/4, compared with last year’s figure of 18 mills.
If the SAD 1 budget remains at 10 mills, Castle Hill’s share at $80,500 will be an increase of $9,000, or 12.6 percent, over last year’s $71,500, said Beaton.
The budget included an estimated county assessment of $11,848, a $969 increase over last year’s $10,878.96.
Voters elected Herman Condon to a three-year term as selectman, replacing Roger Porter, who did not seek re-election. Willard Doyan III was elected assessor. The men each had 31 votes from the 33 residents voting at the annual town meeting.
