Fiction writing course offered

BRUNSWICK — Novelist Richard Grant will teach an eight-week workshop in “Writing Fiction for Publication” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning April 11, at the Maine Writers Center, 19 Mason St., Brunswick.

This workshop, which is open to writers of all levels of experience, will cover aspects of writing fiction — characters, plot, content, artistic strategy, narrative voice, aesthetic wholeness — and practical matters such as markets, manuscripts, dealing with editors, and writing with a particular audience in mind. All participants will read and critique manuscripts submitted to the class, and everyone should expect to contribute one piece of fiction.

Richard Grant is the author of three novels published by Bantam: “Views from the Oldest House,” “Rumors of Spring” and “Saraband of Lost Time.” He has taught creative writing at the Writers Center in Bethesda, Md., and for Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.

The workshop costs $75 for MWPA members, $90 for others. It is sponsored by Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, a non-profit organization, with help from the Maine Arts Commission. Preregistration is required.
