Small business seminars scheduled

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service is planning a couple of seminars for operators of small businesses. The first, dealing with the business use of the home, will be held March 27. The second, with speakers on record-keeping, will be held March 29. Both sessions will be held at the Extension office at 105 Hammond St., Court House Annex, in Bangor. Les Walls T.V. sold and relocated

Les Walls T.V. and Appliance, a Bangor-area business for 35 years, has been sold and has moved. Rick Bronson has purchased the business from the Walls family and has moved the operation to 41 Bangor Mall Blvd. The company has been located at 339 Husson Ave. for the last four years. Before the move to Bangor, the company was located in Brewer.

Electrical code update to be held

A six-hour National Electrical Code update will be held starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor. The program is designed for journeymen and master electricians, and will be conducted by William Macomber. Information about registration can be obtained by calling 941-4680.

Developers honored for contributions

The Economic Development Council of Maine recently honored two Maine men for their contributions to development in the state. The Thomas A. McGillicuddy Award, given to a member making outstanding contributions to EDCM, was given to John C. Turner, president of Development Concepts Inc. of Auburn.

The Developer of the Year Award was presented to Michael W. Aube, president and chief executive officer of Eastern Maine Development Corp. Aube was honored for his strong personal commitment, both regionally and nationally, to the economic development profession.

UM to present marketing seminar

The Conferences and Institutes Division at the University of Maine will present a one-day seminar on creative marketing starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Orono campus. Joyce McClure, a marketing consultant, will lecture on how to reach potential customers with well-planned, creative promotional strategies. Information can be obtained by calling 581-4092.

Bangor Hydro declares dividend

The directors of Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. have declared a quarterly dividend of $0.31 per share on the utility’s common stock. Also, a dividend of $2.19 per share was declared on the company’s 8.76-percent preferred stock; $1.75 per share on the 7-percent preferred stock; $1.06 per share on the 4.25-percent preferred stock; and $1.00 per share on the 4-percent preferred stock. The dividends are payable April 20, 1990, to stockholders of record at the close of business on March 31, 1990.

U.S.-Canada trade conference set

An upcoming conference in Fredericton, New Brunswick, will match business leaders from Maine and the Maritime Provinces in an attempt to spur U.S.-Canada trade. The conference, called Partnerships 90, will be held April 5 and 6. It is a cooperative venture of the Maine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local chambers, and the New Brunswick and Atlantic Provinces chambers.
