Teleparty to raise funds for Heart Association

Volunteers of the Penobscot Division of the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, will conduct a “teleparty” between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. April 4 and 5.

Volunteers will phone residents in the Bangor area asking that they make a pledge to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate. On Wednesday, April 4, the callers will be volunteers from Business and Professional Women and Tuesday Forum, local women’s business organizations. On Thursday, April 5, the callers will be volunteers from two local Kiwanis groups: Bangor Breakfast Club and the Hermon Club. The New England Telephone Co. is supporting this effort.

“Teleparty is a very efficient method of raising funds based on proven telemarketing techniques,” said Dawn Baumer, chairman. ” It is one of the American Heart Association’s most cost-effective methods of raising funds and provides an opportunity for volunteers to be more effective in less time. We’ll be calling 700 households, and our goal for the two-night teleparty is $4,000.”

According to Division President Mary Guyot, cardiovascular disease remains, by far, the biggest killer of Maine people, responsible for 43 percent of all Maine deaths in 1989. Funds raised by this teleparty will be used in Maine for community services, cardiovascular research, public and professional education.

The American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, will be thankful for all responses given during this teleparty; they are fighting for your life.
