A Newport man charged with threatening a police officer remained jailed Monday in lieu of bail.
Harry Kidder, 19, appeared in 3rd District Court in Bangor two days after two Newport police officers went to George Albee’s home at Gilman’s Trailer Park to investigate what they thought was a suicide.
Instead, they allege, Kidder met them at the door with a handgun and later a shotgun, threatening to shoot the officers.
They arrested Kidder, who currently is on probation for an assault conviction, reportedly after he struggled over the shotgun with Albee, his brother. He was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony.
Newport Chief James Ricker testified during a bind-over hearing that the officers “found Mr. Kidder brandishing a firearm” and threatening them.
Reading from the investigators’ report, Ricker quoted Kidder as saying: “I hate you anyway, now get out of here before I blow my … head off.”
Judge Ronald Russell, after hearing testimony, found enough evidence to Kidder for trial on the charge. He set bail at $25,000 single-surety or $2,500 cash.
