Selectman’s resignation is accepted

GOULDSBORO — The Board of Selectmen accepted the unexpected resignation of Patty Miller, effective immediately, at its meeting Thursday at Gouldsboro Town Office. As a result of the resignation, two seats on the five-member Board of Selectmen will be up for grabs at the annual town meeting in June.

Chairman Dwight Rodgers read the resignation letter in which Miller named medical reasons for leaving the board. She intended to continue in office until town meeting but was advised by her physician to resign immediately, she said.

Miller leaves the board after fulfilling less than one year of her three-year term.

The selectmen decided to wait until town meeting to fill the vacant seat.

Merton Chipman, after serving a one-year term, decided earlier not to seek re-election.

Former selectman Jim Guyton said he was not making any commitment as to whether he would seek office.

“I’ll take a long, hard look at it,” he said. “The town needs leadership and direction. If there’s support for me to run, I’ll consider it.”

Nomination papers will be available in the town office on April 26.
