CAMDEN — A fund-raising orientation was held March 31 at the Comfort Inn. It was sponsored by Hand to Hand, a Camden-based organization committed to ending hunger by the year 2000.

Among the fund-raisers trained were six volunteers who set a goal to raise a total of $3,000 for a new computer for Hand to Hand. The six were Alvena Buckingham, Marcia Reisman, Melissa LaFlamme and Shirley Ball, all of Camden; Pat Clark, China; and George McHale, Bangor.

This group joined a team of 13 other Hand to Hand volunteers who are part of Hand to Hand’s “Mitey Byte Campaign,” a project to raise $15,000 for the new computer. With programs in 15 states this year, officials said it would be impossible to track progress and support teams without a complete computer system.

Hand to Hand provides programs, projects, and campaigns to alter the flow of resources with the goal of ending hunger. One is the Basic Monthly Program, a four-week workshop in which volunteers are trained and supported to raise funds for the hunger organizations of their choice.

For more information about the campaign or to make a donation, people are asked to contact Reisman or Buckingham at the Hand to Hand office, 236-9643.
