MACHIAS — The Ferris Wheel Emporium, an indoor marketplace that features 28 small shops, will open for its third season on Tuesday, May 1. The business establishment is on Main Street.

Opening day activities will be directed by Barbara Johnson who recently joined the Emporium staff as special assistant to owner Rosemary E. Bachelor. Activities include a live broadcast by radio station WMCS, a drawing for door prizes, and free refreshments and balloons. Author John K. Brooks will be available from 10 a.m. to noon to autograph copies of his book, `Our Scene — Gems of Down East Maine.”

Business hours, beginning May 1, are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A summer schedule starting in July will feature extended service.
