THOMASTON — After four years, the SAD 50 board of directors has a new chairman.
Elected during the last board meeting to serve in that capacity was Elizabeth Watts, who was re-elected in March to serve a second three-year term on the board. Watts replaced David Hamalainen of St. George, who served four years as chairman.
Hamalainen had decided not to seek re-election as chairman, Superintendent Paul Luttrell said Monday.
Watts announced no plans for changes in board policy or direction, Luttrell said.
“I don’t see any major changes coming about” before the arrival of the new superintendent in July, he said.
Luttrell will retire July 1, after running the school district for eight years. He will be replaced by Kent Webster, who is presently a superintendent in Hancock County.
There are three new members of the school board, all elected in March. They are Mariellen Eaton of Thomaston, replacing Roberta Carmichael, who decided not to seek re-election; and Peter Haviland and Gregory Moore, both of Cushing. They replaced Mary Shephard and Susan Solari, both of whom decided not to seek re-election.
