DEXTER – Freshman pitcher Jenny Wardwell fanned 13 while tos DEXTER – Freshman pitcher Jenny Wardwell fanned 13 while tossing a two-hitter to lead Bucksport to a 4-0 win over Dexter here Saturday afternoon.

Wardwell, who only walked one, aided her own cause by posting two singles and driving in one run. Tammi Gross and Tracy Huggins also singled for the 3-0 Golden Bucks.

For Dexter, 1-3, Mandy King and Angela Dorman both singled while losing pitcher Rachel Pung scattered four hits but was victimized by five Dexter errors.

At Searsport, the John Bapst Crusaders defeated the host Vikings.

Carrie Creath went 4-for-4, all singles, and Debbie Feeney and Kerry McGarr had two hits apiece for the 2-1 Crusaders. Pitcher Tracey Rideout gave up only one hit in a complete game’s work, but walked 11 batters.

For the Vikings, now 1-3, Amber Howard had the only hit, a single in the third inning.

PI sweeps Bangor

At Bangor High School, Jodi Logan posted four hits over two games to lead the Wildcats to a doubleheader sweep of the host Bangor Lady Rams.

The Wildcats won the first game 19-6 and the second game 17-5. Both games were called after five innings because of the 12-run rule.

In game one, the Wildcats took advantage of 18 walks by Bangor pitchers en route to the win. Nikki Fulton posted a double and a single while Logan had a triple. For Bangor, 0-4, Lee Wilson had a double and a single while Rhonda Pelkey had a pair of base hits.

In the second game, 12 Presque Isle hits and seven Bangor errors led to the win. For PI, Logan had three singles while Amy Beaulieu knocked a triple and a single. Lynn Billings and Jen Staples also added two singles apiece. For Bangor, Pelkey had a two-run home run and a single while Katrina Coolbrith had two singles.

Hampden sweeps Caribou

At Hampden, the Hampden Academy Broncos swept a doubleheader from the Caribou Vikings with the help of timely hits in both games by Katy Kelly. The Broncos won 9-8 in 9 innings in the first game and 13-12 in 8 innings in the second. In both cases Kelly had the game-winning RBI.

In the ninth inning of the first game, Sue Thompson walked with one out, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Ryerson and scored on Kelly’s single.

For the Vikings, Heather Ketch had four singles and Shelly Richardson singled twice.

With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game, Kelly again came through with a clutch single to score Ryerson. The Broncos are now 2-2.

For the 0-3 Vikings, Richardson singled twice and doubled and Laura Lambert had two singles.

At Orono, Becky Vaughn scattered four hits while striking out three and only walking two to lead Maine Central Institute by the Red Riots.

MCI took advantage of 16 Orono walks. Steph Shaw tripled for the winners.

Beth Halteman doubled for the 0-4 Red Riots.

At East Corinth, Courtney Dearborn’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the undefeated Red Devils their third win. Her hit came after walks loaded the bases.

Sherrie Greatorex had a three-run homer and a triple for the winners with Dearborn also doubling twice for a total of four RBIs.

For the 1-2 Piscataquis Community High Pirates of Guilford, Cindy Davis had a two-run triple and Tracy Stone a two-run double.

Putnams lift Hodgdon by Ashland

HODGDON – Alison Putnam’s single with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh knocked in her sister Martha for the winning run as Hodgdon defeated Ashland 6-5 in softball action here Saturday.

Alison had four singles and two RBIs while Martha had two singles and an RBI for 1-2 Hodgdon. Jamie Gwilliam added two singles and an RBI and Jen McPhee single twice and knocked in two runs for the Hawks.

For 2-2 Ashland, Julie Graham had a pair of doubles, a single and two RBIs and Shelley Belanger singled twice and drove in a run.

Kim Zwicker chipped in with three singles and an RBI for the 1-1 winners. Carlene Jay, Wendy Rand, and Angel Ellis each contributed two singles.

Amy Spiers singled, doubled and had three RBIs for 1-2 Schenck and Donna Reardon doubled.

At Fort Fairfield on Friday, Heather Sincerbeaux belted a grand slam in the first inning to ignite the offense of Central Aroostook of Mars Hill and key the victory over the host Tigers.

For the 2-0 Panthers, Angela Allen had a triple and 2 singles. Sincerbeaux also had a single.

For the 1-3 Tigers, Sare Bernier had a triple, double and a single. Robyn Roope had a double and 2 singles.
