A rabies clinic will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the municipal building. All animals should be on a leash; vaccination will cost $6 an animal.
The town office will be closed Friday, May 11. Residents requesting licenses and permits for weekend excursions or projects should obtain them before Friday.
The code enforcement officer and the plumbing inspector will not be in the town office Monday, May 14. Permits may be obtained from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 10.
Carmel Snowmobile Club will hold a sock hop from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the clubhouse. The kitchen will be open and everyone is invited to the dance. Tickets cost $10 a couple and can be reserved by calling 848-3248 or 848-3517.
Carmel Alumni Association would like to obtain a picture of the old Dodge House, where Carmel High School used to be located. If residents have such a picture, CAA asks them to contact the town office at 848-3361, or bring the picture by.

Areas where mobile home parks and commercial uses will be allowed in Dedham and Lucerne will be the topic for public discussion from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Dedham Town Office.
The Dedham Growth Committee is asking for public comment from residents interested in what Dedham and Lucerne will look like in the year 2000. All are encouraged to attend the meeting and present views.
The Dedham Community Club will hold a food sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 5, at the Dedham Town Office. Proceeds will benefit drug- and alcohol-free graduation parties at area high schools.

The town office reminds residents that 1989-90 taxes were due May 1; interest begins May 2. The town office is open during the following hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; and 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
All taxpayers should return the tax lists that were mailed by the town assessor in February. If any resident needs another copy — or never received one — please pick up a form at the town office, and return them as soon as possible.
Copies of the directory of services, annual reports, budget calendars for fiscal year 1990-91 and town charters that go into effect July 1 are available at the town office.
Holden
The Holden Planning Board will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Holden Elementary School to consider two site-plan exceptions: construction of a radio communications tower on Copeland Hill by Radio Telephone of Maine, and construction of a gasoline station and convenience store on Route 1A by Irving Oil Corp.
The Town Hall Restoration Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the Old Holden Town Hall.
Holden Town Manager R. Larry Varisco has announced that nomination papers are available at the Holden Municipal Building for two selectmen for three-year terms and two SAD 63 directors for three-year terms. Nomination papers must be signed by 25-100 registered voters in the town of Holden. Nomination papers must be returned to the municipal building by 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 8.
The municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, and the annual town meeting is Wednesday, June 13.

The town will hold a townwide spring cleanup May 4-6. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and items need to be brought to the Public Works garage on Route 1A. The town will collect items not normally picked up during weekly trash collection. The town will accept items such as old appliances, furniture, tires and home-owner debris. Hudson
Baseball season swings into action this week. Little League and Farm League teams will play at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the town hall. Family and friends are encouraged to come out and catch the action.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Hudson Fire Department will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13, at the town hall. Proceeds will benefit projects of the fire department.
Kenduskeag
Kenduskeag will start a recycling project May 19. From 8 a.m. to noon the third Saturday of each month, residents are asked to collect their newspaper and glass and transport the waste to the town dump. Newspaper must be bundled and all glossy sections removed; glass items must be sorted by colors, rinsed, and tops taken off. Volunteers with trucks are needed for this project; interested residents should call the town office at 884-7947.
Residents planning to take white goods and tires to the dump should pay a tipping fee at the town office within the next two weeks.
The Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the town office.
Starting Friday May 4, the recreation committee will hold adult co-ed softball under the lights at 8 p.m. every Friday, at the recreation field. The cost will be $2 a player, and games will be played throughout the summer.
Scout leaders and baseball coaches have planned a roadside clean up for Sunday, May 20; no white goods will be accepted. Organizers request that dog owners keep their dogs on a leash or indoors.
Levant
At the Board of Selectmen’s meeting Monday, May 14, an associate member will be appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The spring trash cleanup will be held May 28 and June 4. White goods and other metals will be collected May 28; wood, brush and other rubbish will be collected June 4.
There will be a special town meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Levant School. The interim tipping fee with PERC will be the topic of discussion.
Newburgh
The Newburgh Comprehensive Planning Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the town hall.
Fire permits may be obtained at the Newburgh Country Store, at Priscilla Applebee’s residence on Route 69 and from Gary Sibley, the town’s fire warden. For information, call Sibley at 234-2323.
If any parent has a child eligible for kindergarten in September, register at the Newburgh School as soon as possible. The child must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15. Bring the child’s immunization record and birth certificate.
There will be no town spring cleanup this year because of the lack of a proper disposal site. The town is trying to find an authorized site, but until one is found, there is no place to dispose of white goods and tires.
Orrington
The Planning Board will meet at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the town hall.
A town budget hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the town hall.
A school budget hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Center Drive School. All interested residents are encouraged to attend and comment. Written comments received before the budget hearings will be read at the hearings.
Nomination papers for the Orrington municipal elections June 25 are available at the town office. Open are two three-year terms on the School Committee, two three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen, and one three-year term on the Board of Assessors. People who want to seek these positions should have 25-75 signatures in the office by June 4.
A garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Ambulance Building on Center Drive, sponsored by the Orrington Volunteer Ambulance Service Auxiliary.

New dump stickers are available at the town office. All residents need a new sticker by May 15.
A baked bean and ham supper will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Ellingwood Corner Methodist Church. The menu also will have salds, biscuits, brown bread, pickles and pies.
