The signs of summer are already in the Maine air. For many of us, young and old, this inspires thoughts of canoe trips, lake swims and mountain hikes. But if you are a parent who has to work during the summer vacation, it also brings worries about child care. And if you are an elementary- or high school-age child, you might be wondering how to fill your days with something other than television.

Fortunately, Bangor-area programs offer a number of recreational and educational events for a wide range of age groups. Day and residential camps, park programs, volunteer opportunities, and library reading clubs are some of the options parents and children have for making this summer a fun-filled time.
