Brewer Convalescent

Our spring craft fair and bake sale held April 7 brought in more than $375 toward the Resident Council Fund. We acknowledge the crafters, volunteers and folks who donated time, items and food for the fair. The support was appreciated.

Members of the Brewer Garden and Bird Club made their monthly visit and provided us with fresh flowers for spring bouquets.

Our Easter egg hunt was successful. Residents were delighted by the participation of the children. Winners of the hunt were Myra Shannon, 2, and Nicole Wooster, 5, children of staff members.

Tom McKenny of Eddington brought three small bunnies and one Flemish giant to visit residents, children and staff members. The Easter bunny had competition when it came to taking pictures.

The dietary staff went all out Easter Sunday providing us with a ham dinner. Residents, staff and family members really enjoyed the festivities. Ron Andrews and her staff were responsible.

Phillips-Strickland

Easter Day was celebrated by visiting with families and friends. Several residents were invited out to dinner by their families and friends, while others invited families and friends to join them at Phillips-Strickland for a traditional ham dinner.

After dinner, residents attended the Easter worship service provided by Judy Burdick. Later, the Salvation Army Songsters provided an afternoon of music and spiritual readings.

A group of residents enjoyed having dinner April 18 at the Town Cafe in Hampden. Everyone ordered his or her favorite dish from the menu. The graham cracker cream pie was the favorite dessert ordered. The outing was suggested by the House Committee at its March meeting.

A few of the coming events include: “A Spring Sing” with Norm Lambert and Harley Soule; “Sweden,” a book review by Ruth Greenquist; and a trip to the Bangor Symphony.

Westgate Manor

Ola Bolan, president of the Resident Council, presented checks of $250 each to nursing students Kimberly Bowley and Laurie Smith, to help further their education. Westgate Manor residents have worked through the past year to raise money through raffles, fairs and food sales.

Our newsletter, “Westgate Spring,” is fresh off the presses and has been sent to families and friends of Westgate Manor.
