PEMBROKE — Northeast Salmon Farms of Pembroke is seeking permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to install about 12 floating fish pens in waters off Lubec and Perry. Written comments on the proposal will be received by the engineers no later than Monday, May 7, at Waltham, Mass.

Six of the pens would be installed in waters off Seward Neck in South Bay at Lubec, and six pens would be installed off Red Island in Cobscook Bay at Perry. The pens would be used to raise Atlantic salmon and trout for commercial and retail markets.

The pens will be bottom-moored with 2,000-pound and 4,000-pound concrete blocks.

The application for the federal permit was filed with the engineers in compliance with the Rivers and Harbors Act which provides for federal regulation of any work in, under and over navigable waters in the United States.

To assist in evaluating the proposed work, the engineers are soliciting public comments. Written statements should be forwarded to their office no later than May 7. Additional information may be obtained by contacting Jay Clement at the New England Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kennebec Center, PR 5, Box 1855, Augusta 04330.
