MACHIAS — Twenty-four students from eight Washington County high schools will participate in the state Business Education Association of Maine Business Contest to be held at Thomas College in Waterville on Friday, May 18.
The 24 students were winners in the Region D contest held recently at the University of Maine at Machias. About 200 business students from the Washington County schools took part in the contest. Each of the three top winners in each category will compete in the state contest at Waterville.
The winners in each of the categories are as follows:
Keyboarding I: first place, Chris Beckett, Calais High School; second place, Rebecca Woodward, Lubec High School; third place, Amy Sawyer, Calais High School.
Advanced keyboarding: first place, Melinda Davis, Machias High School; second place, Jonathan Keezer, Shead High School; third place, Ruthie Faulkingham, Machias High School.
Accounting I: first place, Bobbie Jo Tibbetts, Woodland High School; second place, Michele Prescott, Washington Acadmey; third place, Jason Sinford, Machias High School.
Advanced accounting: first place, Jennifer Marden, Calais High School; second place, Kelley Hubbard, Lubec High School; third place, Tobbie Lyons, Calais High School.
Shorthand-notehand: first place, Coralie Holmes, Washington Academy; second place, Robin McLaughlin, Washington Academy; third place, Belinda Garrett, Narraguagus High School.
Office procedures: first place, Beth Charczynski, Jonesport-Beals High School; second place, Christie Nutter, Woodland High School; third place, Carrie Waycott, Calais High School.
Business competencies: first place, Lorien Kaminsky, Machias High School; second place, Carrie Waycott, Calais High School; third place, Jennifer Marden, Calais High School.
Business mathematics: first place, Nicole White; second place, Robert Brown; third place, Aimee Payne, all of Woodland High School.
Word processing: first place, Christopher Newel, Calais High School; second place, Jessie Gay, Machias High School; third place, Michele Prescott, Washington Academy.
Schools participating in the Region D contest were: Machias Memorial High School, Washington Acadmey, Calais High School, Woodland High School, Lubec High School, Narraguagus High School, Jonesport-Beals High School and Shead High School.
Coordinators for the event were Lois Michaud and Karen Flaherty of Machias High School.
