The Maine Candlepin Pro Tour and Maine Open Candlepin Bowlers Association combined for the second straight year last weekend to honor Maine’s best bowlers.
Awards were officially presented to state champs in several categories, determined in tourneys held the past several months. Russ Nealey of South Paris and Val Joy of Windham were named Bowlers of the Year for the titles they collected on the Maine Candlepin Pro Tour.
Tour officials also named Carole Swenson of Saco and Matt Rich of South Paris as its Rookies of the Year.
The MOCBA presented its awards for state championships to the following: women – doubles, Marti Damon and Mary LeBrecque, South Paris; singles, Paula Truman, Saco; team, Mary LeBrecque, Betty Snowman, Marti Damon, Sharon Fogg and Val Joy, South Paris; and all events, Joy.
Also, men: doubles, Chip Carson (Bangor) and Charlie Milan III (Brewer); singles, Dave Vigue, Gardiner; team, Bill Curtis, Al Joy, Rich, Clayton Sargent, and Nealey, South Paris; and all events, Milan III.
Also taking home trophies were: mixed doubles, Judie Berry and Ray Dube of Saco and mixed teams, Nealey, Fogg, and Al and Val Joy.
