The Husson College board of trustees will confer honorary degrees on three distinguished Maine citizens during the 91st commencement exercises of the college at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in Newman Gymnasium.
A doctor of humane letters will be presented to commencement speaker William Haggett, chairman and chief executive officer of Bath Iron Works.
A doctor of education degree will be presented to Lynn E. Brooks, a business education teacher at Brewer High School, and a doctor of business administration degree to Bradford S. Wellman, president of Ames and Wellman Co. in Bangor.
Haggett will speak to the graduates and their guests. The board of trustees will confer the honorary degrees, two- and four-year undergraduate degrees, Eastern Maine Medical Center/Husson nursing degrees and master’s degrees from the graduate program.
Haggett, a Maine native, earned a bachelor of arts degree from Colby College and has been employed at BIA for 25 years. He was named chairman and CEO in 1986, when he also was appointed to the Presidential Commission on Merchant Marine and Defense.
Brooks is being recognized for her commitment to raising the aspirations of Maine youths and her efforts to develop the talents of those following in her footsteps.
Wellman is being recognized for his many contributions to his community, participation in state government and his commitment to the forest resources of Maine.
