Brazilians touring area in study exchange

CALAIS — Although they are a long way from home, six visitors from Brazil are enjoying their visit to New Brunswick, Canada, and eastern Maine, where they are experiencing the culture and flavor of life as well as studying farming and business practices in the area.

The group, part of an International Rotary study-exchange team visiting the area, includes Dr. Seizi Kawano, a Rotarian and chairman of the study group; Sergio Suzuki, an agronomist; Tulio Neves Zanchet, an agronomist and farmer; Antonio Claret Gomes, a technician and mechanic; Norberto Jose Manz, an agronomist engineer; and Ilton Martins Da Silva, an electrical substation operator.

The six arrived in Fredericton about three weeks ago, and since then have toured businesses and farms in St. John, Campbellton and New Castle. On the U.S. side of the border, they visited farms and businesses in Madawaska, Caribou and Houlton.

The group has been in the Calais area since Tuesday and plans to visit Machias before they leave Maine. After they return to New Brunswick next week, some members of the group will return to Brazil and others will go on to New York.
