Tuesday, June 12 will mark the 50th anniversary of the opening night of the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft.
I sincerely hope this special occasion will help the citizens of the community, and the county, revive the many memories they may still have of the former beautiful theater. Hopefully, they will still remember the excitement and joy of attending their first Saturday matinee at the Center, of being allowed to go to the evening shows as they grew older, and finally, taking their own children to the Disney movies they saw as youngsters. I enjoyed seeing this cycle many times while I was in the theater business.
I enjoyed working at the Center Theatre in the early 1950s and again in the early 1970s. I have many wonderful memories of how good the people of Dover-Foxcroft were to me.
Thankfully, the theater building may be used as a new entertainment center. I truly hope so. It would mean so much to be able to see and hear the laughter and cheers of children and parents once again in the Center Theatre. Glen Wheateon Pittsfield
