John C. McGinn, senior executive vice president and senior trust officer at Fleet Bank of Maine, is retiring after 34 years in the banking industry.
McGinn has been serving as Fleet’s overall administrator of banking in the Greater Bangor and Down East region of the state. Robert A. Norris, senior vice president and head of the residential mortgage department, will assume McGinn’s administrative role in the region.
McGinn joined Merrill Trust Co. in 1956 after graduation from Georgetown University Law Center and a stint with the American Security Bank in Washington, D.C.
In 1966, he was named a vice president and head of the trust department. He later was elected senior vice president and, in 1983, senior executive vice president. McGinn also served as a director of Merrill Trust Co. and Merrill Bancshares Co.
After his retirement, McGinn will continue to serve as a member of the Maine Health and Higher Education Facilities Authority, as a director of the Bangor District Nursing Association, and as a corporator of Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Norris has been with the bank for 20 years in the Bangor area. In 1986, he established a residential mortgage department, which last year was Fleet’s No. 1 originator of mortgages in the state.
Norris is vice chairman of the Maine Bankers’ Association legislative committee, a director of the Credit Counseling Center Inc., a trustee of the New England School of Banking, a member of the Hampden Aspirations Committee, chairman of the Vietnam Veterans of Maine Scholarship Fund, and a corporator of Eastern Maine Healthcare.
Norris is a graduate of Husson College, where he also earned a master’s degree in business.
