The proposed coal-burning plant in Bucksport is an issue affecting not only the residents of Bucksport. It is outrageous that at a public hearing concerning this plant, the entire public was not allowed to comment.

Deluxe scrubbers notwithstanding, more than 4,000 tons of nasty emissions will be spewing out into our air each year, further fouling everybody’s environment if this plant is constructed. Is there anyone out there who is unware of the desperate condition of our environment? School children everywhere are well informed and very worried about this global problem.

Maine used to be one of the purest states in the nation and now it has a very high level of air pollution. Please, everyone, wake up before we make a big mistake. The entire planet is already in bad shape and we must turn it around for the sake of our children and generations to come. The emissions from this plant will contribute to the greenhouse effect, global warming, acid rain, acid water, and toxic soot for our lungs.

The bottom line is that we don’t even need the power. It will be sold out of state and many employees will be brought in from elsewhere. This will be a profitable deal for a few people at the expense of public health. The college students at the Rural Education Program H.O.M.E. Co-op, Orland
