PITTSFIELD — Quiche will be in competition at the 18th annual Central Maine Egg Festival on Friday, July 27. Whoever bakes the most tasty Egg Festival quiche will claim a $50 grand prize. Entrants must be at least 16 years old, and all quiche must be made at home, and made from scratch, using at least three eggs.

Quiche must be taken to the Congregational Church on Park Street, Pittsfield, between 10:15 and 11 a.m., when it will be judged. Recipes should be submitted with the entry and will become the property of the Egg Festival Committee. Quiche will be reheated at the contest site for the judging. There is a $1 entry fee for the contest.

Leah Newhouse is in charge of the contest, sponsored by DAKA Food Service. Anyone wishing to enter may register with Newhouse by calling 487-6691, or 487-5102. There are two categories of quiche — those made with meat or fish and those made with vegetables. Texture, taste, content and appearance will enter into the judging. Ribbons will be awarded to first and second place winners in each category.
