Maine Department of Transportation lists areas yet to be sprayed for roadside brush control

AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Transportation will complete its roadside brush control program by early September, DOT officials said recently.

Clyde Walton, DOT landscape architect, said the one-time spray is coordinated with mowing to provide safe highways.

The dilute spray mix consists of one part chemical to 200 parts water, Walton said, and then is applied selectively to avoid hazards. “No spray” agreements may be made by communities and individuals with the DOT, Walton said.

Areas scheduled for spraying are:

In Aroostook County, Morok Plantation, T7-R5, T8-R5, T9-R5, Oxbow, Smyrna, Ludlow, New Limerick, Linneus, Houlton, Oakfield, Dyer Brook, Island Falls, Crystal, Sherman, Benedicta Township, T2-R6 and T1-R6.

In Hancock and Washington counties, Ellsworth, Hancock, Sullivan, Sorrento, Gouldsboro, Winter Harbor, Township 7 S.D., Steuben, Milbridge, Harrington, Cherryfield, Township 10 S.D., Township 9 S.D., Franklin, Lamoine and Trenton.

In Washington County, Township 8-R3, Township 8-R4, Danforth, Brookton, Vanceboro, Lambert Lake, Codyville, Kossuth, Topsfield, Talmadge, Waite, Grand Lake Stream, Indian Township, Princeton, Baileyville, Alexander, Crawford, Township 26 E.D., Wesley, Township 31 M.D., Township 30 M.D., and Township 24 M.D.;

In Penobscot County, T1-R8 W.E.L.S., T1-R9 W.E.L.S., T2-R9 W.E.L.S., Plymouth, Newport, Levant, Kenduskeag, Glenburn, Howland, Mattamiscontis, T2-R8, T2-R9, Medway, Brewer and T1-R6;

In Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, Blanchard, Kingsbury, Sangerville, Etna, Carmel, Hermon, Bangor, Veazie, Orono, Old Town, Alton, Argyle and Edinburg;

In Kennebec and Somerset counties, Belgrade, Oakland, Wayne, Rome, Sidney, Smithfield, Mercer, Starks, Gardiner, Pittston, Randolph, Chelsea, Windsor, Augusta, Readfield, Winthrop, Litchfield, West Gardiner, Monmouth, Manchester, Farmingdale, Hallowell, Fairfield, Waterville, Benton, Pittsfield, Palmyra, Burnham and Clinton;

In Waldo County, Monroe, Swanville, Waldo, Brooks, Jackson, Knox, Thorndike, Troy, Unity and Freedom.
