MAPLETON — A 29-year-old Mapleton man died Thursday night at Maine Medical Center in Portland of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday on Route 163 in Mapleton.

State police said Timothy Thomas was taken to the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle before being flown by helicopter to the Maine Medical Center in Portland Wednesday afternoon. The accident was reported at 12:50 a.m., police said. Thomas, owner and operator of a 1981 Chevrolet Chevette, crossed the center line while going east and struck a mailbox and culvert. The auto became airborne above a driveway and landed upright in a culvert.

Police said Thomas was thrown from the car.
