Two people were killed Wednesday in separate traffic accidents in Maine.
State police said Donald Gerrish, 47, of Winthrop was working with a state surveying crew on Route 17 in Windsor when he was hit while standing at the edge of the road.
The driver of the car that hit him, Matthew Dineen, 21, of Gardiner, told police he had fallen asleep while driving home from work, said Stephen McCausland of the Department of Public Safety.
Trooper Robert James attributed the accident to inattention but said no charges would be filed.
A second fatal accident occurred in Clinton, but state police said no details were available immediately.
