PRESQUE ISLE — Dana M. Swett, safety director at Maine Public Service Co., has retired after more than 42 years of employment with the electric utility.
Swett began his career at MPS in January 1948, as a ground worker in the Ashland service department. He was promoted to subforeman in 1952 and was named safety director 10 years later.
Fred Bustard, vice president of engineering and operations at MPS, praised Swett for “speaking up for safety, for standing up for professional ethics, training and safety education, and for making our company a better place.”
Swett has been a member of many associations in the electricity and safety fields. He was active in Ashland school affairs and the Boy Scouts of America. He also has served on the boards of the Presque Isle and Ashland chambers of commerce.
Swett will represent District 781 of Rotary International as district governor in 1990-1991. He is past president of both the Presque Isle and Ashland Rotary Clubs.
Linda Swett, his wife, recently resigned after 29 years with MPS as executive secretary and receptionist. The couple lives in Presque Isle.
