SEBEC VILLAGE — Victorian lace, linen tablecloths, freshly

ppicked flowers and parasols were the prevailing items at tea time

TThursday at the Sebec Reading Room on the shores of Sebec Lake in

SSebec Village.

The occasion was the seventh annual English Victorian Tea,

ssponsored by the Sebec Garden Club. Hostesses and waitresses for

tthe tea, as well as some of the guests attending, wore shirts,

bblouses, dresses and aprons of the Victorian period. Several of the

gguests carried parasols.

Tables were set with china and silver, bringing a glimpse of

wwhat used to be. Refreshments served at the tea included Scottish

sshortbreads, scones, banberry tarts, Welsh teisen lap, lemon

ccurd, finger sandwiches, fresh strawberry tarts and pots of

ttea and ice-cold lemonade.

Chairman of the tea was Elsie Watters, past president of the

SSebec Garden Club. Assisting her were officers Anita Johndro,

ppresident; Heather Crozier, vice president and hostess for the

aafternoon; Kathleen Watters, treasurer; and Joyce DoLittlecq,

ssecretary.

Music for the afternoon was provided by Adam Hutton, a sophomore

aat Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, playing selections on his

vviolin.

Waitresses, dressed in frilly blouses or dresses trimmed with

llace, included Emily Watters, Connie DeRosey, Susan Morris,

LLauralyn Arbisi, Louise Tremble, Sally Lane Allen, Jillian Morris,

SSusan Dow, Melissa Watters, Darcy Johndro, Melanie Baird, Jamie

BBeard and Syria Manuel. Working in the kitchen were Ruth Nason,

AAlta Clark, Anita Johndro, Ramona Hamlin and Mary Downs.

According to Crozier, there were guests from throughout the New

EEngland states and Denmark and Hawaii. Everyone connected with the

eevent felt it was a social and financial success.

Proceeds from the tea are used for club and community

bbetterment projects. Some of the projects include the planting and

ccaring of flowers throughout the community. The building where the

ttea was held is shared by the Sebec Snowmobile Club, and both

ggroups are in the process of working on the building.
