Bangor police were searching Tuesday for a Bangor man who led an officer on a high-speed chase through old Capehart before running off into the woods.

A Bangor officer was cruising through the area Tuesday and noticed a man riding a motorcycle without registration plates. After activating the blue lights, the man sped up, crossed a grassy field and jumped a six-foot-high dirt road barrier before leaving the motorcycle and running into the woods.

Police and police dogs could not find the suspect, who police said is familiar to them. Near the motorcycle, police recovered a loaded banana-type ammunition magazine, leading them to believe the suspect might be armed.
