MILO — The Milo Town Hall dining room was the setting for the dinner meeting Tuesday of the Piscataquis County Retired Teachers’ Association. Forty members attended the meeting.
Phyllis Foss of Dover-Foxcroft, president, led the members in the Collect, the Lord’s Prayer and the Flag Salute. Various reports were given by officers.
Members were told that the association was considering making honorary members those who were shut-ins, living in nursing homes or otherwise unable to attend regularly. Members were told that there are several who were regular members and attended the meetings but now are unable to attend because of illness or age.
John Glover, legislative chairman, reported on the possibility that some of the members are not members of the Maine Retired Teachers Association. He said MRTA dues are $5 in addition to the county association dues of $2.
A discussion was held concerning ways to increase membership. Currently there are 83 members including two from Sangerville; eight from Monson; one from St. Albans; one from Shirley; eight from Guilford; nine from Milo; 23 from Dover-Foxcroft; one from Abbott; 13 from Dexter; one from Ripley; three from Brownville Junction; two from Cambridge; one from Charleston; and 10 from Greenville. Several others in the area are retired teachers but have not joined the group.
Officers include Phyllis Foss, Dover-Foxcroft, president; John Glover, Monson, vice president; Helen Parsons, Dexter, secretary; Constance MacPhearson, Monson, treasurer; and Thelma Ditzel, Charleston, chaplain.
Committee chairmen include Anna Crouse, Dexter, Legislative; Phyllis Wiley, Dover-Foxcroft, Community Participation; Louis Stevens, Dover-Foxcroft, Informative and Protective Services; Marion Doore, Dover-Foxcroft, Pre-Retirement and Membership; Ruth Fletcher, Milo, Publicity; Charlotte Lander, Cambridge, Necrology; and Hazel Weymouth, Milo, Health Services.
Callers for the association include Georgianna Crockett and Louise Smith, Dover-Foxcroft area; Stella Annis, Guilford; Gayle Shirley, Milo; Perry Wortman, Greenville; Harriet Kronholm, Monson; and Marion Coy, Dexter.
The association meets at noon for a dinner meeting on the last Tuesday of April, June, July and September. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Greenville. The place and program will be announced.
