A free nine-session “Living with MS” course will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 19. at the Bangor House at 174 Main St.

The program is sponsored by the Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is taught by local health care professionals and includes topics such as neurology and MS, nutrition, physical therapy and stress reduction.

Sessions are open to patients or anyone wanting to learn about MS, a disease of the central nervous system that is diagnosed usually in people between the ages 20 and 50 and which may cause symptoms ranging from benign to severe.

Maine has one of the highest prevalence rates of MS in the nation. The Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society provides many services from referral to equipment loans and family programs.
