A Bangor man who threatened the owner of the Gianfranco Restaurant with a butter knife and a fork after he was served a bowl of soup was arrested Friday and charged with criminal threatening and criminal trespassing.

When Bangor police officers John Roach and Robin Sellars arrived at the Harlow Street restaurant shortly before noon, they found Daniel Denicola, 45, 26 Cedar St., sitting at a counter holding a butter knife in front of the owner.

Roach ordered Denicola to put down the knife, which he did immediately.

Witnesses reported to police that Denicola had become agitated after he was served a bowl of soup. He was disturbing some of the customers, witnesses said, and scaring some elderly patrons.

When the owner asked Denicola to leave, Denicola was said to have picked up a butter knife and fork and threatened to kill the proprietor. Denicola was taken to Penobscot County Jail and was scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court on Sept. 7.

On Thursday, Daniel Denicola, 22, Mill Street, Newport, was arrested by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and charged with operating a motor vehicle while his license was under suspension.

A Brewer woman was summoned and a boy accompanying her arrested on charges of theft in an incident at Rich’s Department Store at the Airport Mall Friday afternoon. A store security officer reported seeing Laura Smith, 21, 46 Chamberlain St., help a 15-year-old boy hide a VHS tape in his shirt and walk out of the store.

Both were searched and the security officer reported finding a second movie tape hidden in the boy’s clothing and some clothing concealed in Smith’s clothing. The value of the stolen items was $91.96. Smith was scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court Aug. 31.

Lisa R. Moore, 18, 202 North Brunswick St., Old Town, was summoned on charges of theft in an incident at the K mart Discount Store on Hogan Road. A store security officer reported seeing Moore take a fishing lure valued at $2.37 from the store without paying for it. Moore is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court Aug. 31.

Sylvio Ouellette, 67, East Hartford, Conn., was arrested by Bangor police 9:30 a.m. Friday and charged with theft. An employee of Doug’s Shop ‘n Save on Union Street reported seeing Ouellette eat a peach and then go to the store’s salad bar where he filled a container with chili and ate half of the container’s contents.

The employee reported that Ouellette then went to a cash register to pay for the remaining chili. Cost of the eaten food was $2.50. Ouellette was taken to Penobscot County Jail and was scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court Aug. 31.

A North Street woman reported to Bangor police around 2 a.m. Friday that an unidentified man had ransacked her bedroom and fled out her back door. The woman said she had returned home after 1 a.m. and was on the phone to her fiance in Florida when she heard a loud noise from her upstairs bedroom. She decided to call the police.

As she was calling the police, the man came running down the stairs, took the phone out of her hands and hung up. The man then ran out the back door, the woman reported. Missing from her home was a $1,500 diamond ring.

The woman identified the man as being 5 feet, 8 inches tall with wavy, light-brown shoulder-length hair and a mustache. The man was wearing a T-shirt with a blue pocket and blue jeans.

David Shiffler, 32, Philadelphia, was arrested late Thursday night and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquors.

Gerald Soctomah, 40, 179 Indiana Ave., was arrested by Bangor police early Friday morning and charged with theft. A witness reported seeing Soctomah take a pair of booster cables and a tool box from the back of a pickup truck parked near the Greyhound Bus terminal. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court on Aug. 31.

A skunk which Bangor police officers reported was running in circles in Davenport Park Friday afternoon was destroyed after noise from a bullhorn failed to scare the animal and send it on its way.

A Bangor man on Rangeley Place reported to police late Thursday night that he had seen a unidentified man take a homemade orange lawnmower from his front lawn and push it toward Moosehead Boulevard.
